AARIKKA - In 1954, Kaija Aarikka was about to graduate as a textile designer. She wove and sewed a dress of natural colour for herself. However, she was unable to find adequately stylish buttons. So, she bought some wood and began carving them herself. The buttons became an instant hit and started Kaija´s busiest and most important spring. Together with her husband, Erkki Ruokonen, she founded the family business Aarikka Oy. Today, Aarikka is a globally recognised brand and an inseparable part of the history of Finnish industrial design. The story of Aarikka, which began from a button fifty years ago, continues today as a tale of courage, joy and creativity.
