FFF - An abbreviation of fine French furniture, that of which was designed in the reigns of
    Louis XV, Louis XVI.

    FACADE - Architectural expression referring to the front face of a building

    FAR EAST FEELING - The atmosphere that results when objects touched by the culture of
    the East (Japan & China)

    FAUX-BOIS - Literally means false wood

    FESTOON - Decorative trim carved from wood, molded in plaster, or painted to resemble rope
    loops, wreaths or garlands hanging in loops

    FILIGREE - Openwork pattern, pierced from metal or occasionally made of wood.  Has
    wonderful light-filtering qualities whether used at windows or for lanterns

    FINIAL - Decorative ornament on the top or ends of post or rods

    FLIP CLOCK - An analog clock with digital display is a clock which displays information in a
    digital format, but actually keeps track of the time in an analog fashion. This type of clock is
    commonly referred to as a "flip clock."

    FLOCK - Powdered wool applied to wallpaper in a design to make it look and also feel like cut
    velvet

    FLUORESCENT LAMP - A light bulb coated with fluorite which glows when exposed to
    electrons

    FLUSH MOUNT LIGHT FIXTURES - Flush-mounted ceiling light fixtures are attached directly to
    the ceiling without a chain or central stem. They are the least conspicuous type of ceiling
    fixture and often designed not to be noticed. Some flush-mounted fixtures do hang down,
    making it a bit easier to change the bulbs. These are known as semi-flush mount fixtures.  

    FOLK ART - Crafts identified with unsophisticated cultures but sufficiently interesting to
    warrant inclusion in a decorating plan.

    FREE FORM - One which does not follow any standard shape but flows in curves that are
    unrelated to the circles, ovals, and spheres with which we are familiar

    FREE STANDING - Furniture that floats in the center of a room rather than lining up along a
    wall

    FRET - Design cut out of a solid ground, usually in geometric patterns

    FRIEZE - A heavy wool, line, or cotton upholstery fabric with a shaggy raised nap

    FUN - Word used by professional designers and decorators when discussing the off-beat
    elements in a room which may bring a smile or even a laugh

    FUNCTIONAL - Furniture that performs more than the obvious purpose
